About St Sunday Crag
This is a walk for people who actually enjoy climbing rather than strolling. Kids aged ten and up with decent stamina will manage fine, but don't bring toddlers expecting an easy afternoon out. The descent is harder on the knees than the ascent - we took nearly as long coming down as going up. Allow three to four hours total, depending on fitness.
There's no charge to climb it, obviously. Start early if you're going in summer, as Patterdale car parks fill up by mid-morning on weekends. Autumn is genuinely the best season up here - clearer air, fewer people, and the light catches the crags properly.
If you're based at Lakeside Retreat Glamping or Sykeside Camping Park nearby, St Sunday Crag makes a solid day out alongside other Patterdale walks. It's not a "one peak and done" kind of fell - you'll want to explore the surrounding ridges. The infrastructure for camping round here is decent, though some sites need updating.
