St Simon and St Jude isn't trying to impress with age or grandeur - it's a Catholic church built in the 1800s when such buildings were relatively bold statements in this part of Yorkshire.

If you're walking around Leyburn anyway, it's worth a quick visit - allow twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're the type to sit and absorb the atmosphere. Not somewhere to drag reluctant teenagers.

Eastfield Glamping Farm is just over a mile away, so easily reached on foot, and Yorkshire Dales Holiday Park isn't much further. Both make decent bases for tackling the valley properly. The church itself is free to enter, though do check ahead as opening times aren't always predictable with smaller churches.
