St Rumon's Church

Down a narrow lane outside Truro, St Rumon's Church sits quietly in the village of Malpas, overlooking the Truro River. It's a 15th-century granite church with a proper squat tower - the kind of building that makes you realise Cornwall's full of these underrated medieval stones that most visitors drive straight past.

Inside, it's got the usual church fixtures - carved bench ends, an old font, that particular smell of damp stone and centuries. The real draw is standing outside and looking across the water. On a clear day you get proper views down the river, and it's the sort of quiet spot where you actually hear birds instead of tour buses.

This isn't a destination in itself. It's a thirty-minute detour if you're staying at Veryan Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby, which makes it handy as a morning leg-stretch before heading off somewhere bigger. Park in the village, walk around the churchyard, and you're done in under an hour. Walkers might find it on a longer route exploring the riverside paths around Truro.

Free to enter, no opening hours to fret about - just turn up. The village itself is pleasant enough but unremarkable. Go if you're already in the area and like the idea of church spotting. Skip it if you're after something with more to do. It works best as part of a broader wander through South Cornwall's quieter corners, not as a standalone trip.
