National Trust - Carne and Pendower

Two of Cornwall's finest beaches sit practically side by side near Veryan, separated by a modest headland that's absolutely worth scrambling across. Carne Beach is the larger, sandier expanse - proper job for families who want room to spread out, with rock pools that keep children occupied for hours if the tide's right. Pendower, just over the way, feels slightly more sheltered and intimate, with firmer sand that's better for walking.

The National Trust owns both stretches, which means they're well-maintained without being overdeveloped. There's a car park, facilities, and lifeguards during summer months. Walking between the two beaches takes ten minutes at most, and the path itself offers decent views back across the water towards Dodman Point. If you're staying at Veryan Camping and Caravanning Club Site - just 2.3 miles away - you could practically roll out of your pitch and be in the water within twenty minutes.

These beaches suit families more than serious walkers, though the coastal path does pass through if you fancy extending your visit. The sand can get busy in peak season, particularly around Carne, but midweek mornings tend to be quieter. Pendower often has fewer crowds simply because fewer people know about it.

Free to access, naturally. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to swim and explore both beaches properly. Worth fitting in if you're based anywhere near Truro or heading down the Roseland Peninsula - they're proper working beaches, not museum pieces.
