St Peter's Church sits quietly in the village of Wintringham, a few miles south of Pickering, and it's one of those places that rewards a gentle detour if you're camping or glamping in the area. The church itself is Norman - that solid, no-nonsense architecture that England did so well in the 12th century - and stepping inside you're confronted with proper medieval stonework and a few decent monuments that tell you something about who mattered around here centuries ago.

It's not a showstopper like some cathedral, but that's rather the point. There's a quiet dignity to it, the kind of building that local historians get genuinely excited about whilst most visitors drive straight past.
