The tower of St Peter and St Paul's rises unexpectedly from the flat Romney Marsh landscape - a proper medieval landmark that's been keeping watch over this watery corner of Kent for centuries. Inside, you'll find the kind of church interior that rewards slow looking: medieval wall paintings, a Tudor font, and that particular smell of old stone and polish that takes you straight back.

This is one for the church historians and anyone who enjoys poking around quieter religious buildings without the crowds you'd get at Canterbury or Rochester. The wall paintings alone are worth the trip if you're into that sort of thing - they're faded but genuinely atmospheric. The setting is what gets you though. Step outside and you're surrounded by Romney Marsh's wide skies and drained fields, the kind of landscape that feels properly removed from the rest of England.

The church sits in Newchurch village itself, which is small enough that you won't spend ages hunting for parking. No particular opening restrictions that we know of, though it's always worth checking locally before you go.

Honestly, if you're already on the Marsh exploring the coast and the villages, this deserves twenty minutes of your time. If you're not already in the area, it's not quite worth a dedicated trip on its own.
