St Michael, Framlingham

The churchyard at St Michael in Framlingham sits quietly off the main drag, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper look around. The church itself is a solid medieval structure - all flint and stone with a tower that's been keeping watch over Suffolk for centuries. Inside, there's proper craftsmanship: carved roof beams, decent stained glass, and enough history in the walls to keep any enthusiast occupied for a good hour.

What makes it special is the atmosphere. Unlike some churches that feel overly curated, this one still feels like it belongs to the community. The churchyard is genuinely peaceful - no gift shop, no visitor centre, just graves and space and the sound of birds. Locals pop in regularly, which tells you something about the place.

It's ideal if you're based at Savage Glamping or The Croft Campsite nearby and fancy a morning walk into Framlingham proper. Woodbridge - the nearest proper town - is a fifteen-minute drive away and worth combining with this visit. The church works best as part of a bigger day out rather than a standalone stop. Most people spend thirty to forty minutes here, though you could easily linger longer in the churchyard if the weather's decent.

Free to enter, as far as I can tell. Opening hours aren't formally advertised, but it's the type of place that's usually accessible during daylight. Go midweek if you want it to yourself.
