St Marnarch

The church sits quietly on the edge of Trenedden, the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. St Marnarch is a proper old Cornish parish church - granite walls, worn stone steps, the works - and it's worth a quick detour if you're staying at any of the nearby holiday parks like Tremeer Farm or Tencreek.

Inside, it's genuinely atmospheric. The interior has that particular smell of old English churches - stone, candles, time itself. There's some decent medieval work if you're into that sort of thing, though the building's been touched up over the centuries like most of them. The churchyard's the real draw for a lot of people - proper atmospheric place to walk around, especially on an afternoon when the light's getting low.

Really it's a five-minute stop rather than a destination. You're not going to spend two hours here unless you're a serious church historian. But if you're based at one of the caravan parks round Looe way and fancy a gentle walk through the village, it breaks up the afternoon nicely. The setting's pleasant enough without being spectacular. Opening times aren't always clear, so turn up during daylight and you should be fine - it's the sort of village church that often stays open. Free to look around, which helps.
