Ribby Wood

Walk into Ribby Wood and you're immediately swallowed by proper Cornish woodland - tall trees, soft earth underfoot, the kind of quiet that makes you forget there's a holiday park anywhere nearby. It's a straightforward forest ramble through mixed broadleaf, nothing dramatic but absolutely worth an hour if you're based around Lerryn and fancy stretching your legs without a massive hike.

The woodland floor is mossy and damp even when it hasn't rained, so decent boots matter. Routes aren't formally signposted that I could see, but the paths are clear enough to follow - locals use these tracks regularly. Walkers will enjoy it more than families with small children, though older kids won't struggle if they're keen on exploring. The appeal is gentle: shade, greenery, the occasional glimpse through the canopy rather than sweeping vistas. It's the kind of place you'd visit mid-week when staying at Tremeer Farm or one of the larger parks like Tencreek or East Crinnis, not somewhere you'd drive miles out of your way for.

Since it's a public woodland, there's no admission fee or opening hours nonsense - you just go. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much you wander. Best in spring when the bluebells come through, or autumn when the light filters through turning leaves. Summer can feel a bit shadeless and claustrophobic. It's exactly what you'd want if you're after a quiet woodland walk within spitting distance of Lerryn - nothing more, nothing less.
