Brockles Paddock

The walk into Brockles Paddock winds through proper Cornish countryside - all high hedgerows and sudden glimpses of the valley beyond. It's a modest nature reserve that rewards quiet observation rather than dramatic vistas, set just outside St Veep where the landscape starts to fold into itself.

What you get here is woodland and grassland managed for wildlife. Adders sun themselves on the banks in summer, slow worms slip through the undergrowth, and if you're lucky the birds - nuthatches, spotted woodpeckers - actually show themselves. The paths are straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might lose interest after twenty minutes or so. It's not a destination that demands a full morning, more of an add-on if you're already in the area.
