Walkers and history types will find it worth the detour more than families with restless kids. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like High Farm or Country Glamping, it's a straightforward drive into Shildon town centre. Pair it with Witton Castle just down the road if you want to stack a couple of historical stops together in an afternoon.
