St Julitta's Church, Lanteglos-by-Camelford

The church sits alone on a hillside above the Camel valley, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. St Julitta's is small - genuinely small - with a tower that looks like it's been holding up the Cornish sky since medieval times. Inside, the light comes through narrow windows and hits whitewashed walls that have seen centuries pass. There's a simplicity here that's rare, especially in churches that have been expanded and "improved" over the years. This one mostly hasn't.

It's the sort of place walkers stumble upon rather than plan for. If you're based near Bodmin or heading towards Camelford, it's worth a twenty-minute detour if you appreciate medieval architecture and the quiet kind of history - no gift shop, no crowds, just an old building doing what it's always done. The surrounding countryside is proper walking territory, rolling and green, which makes this a natural stop on a longer route rather than a destination in itself.

Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming after five minutes, but anyone with an interest in parish churches will appreciate the authenticity. Combining this with a stay at one of the nearby parks - Rosebud Farm if you want adults-only peace, or Camp De Lank if you're after something more relaxed - gives you access to quiet corners of Cornwall that most visitors miss. Allow half an hour if you're properly looking, ten minutes if you're just passing through.
