St John The Baptist Horrabridge

The church sits quietly at the heart of Horrabridge, a village that feels properly removed from the usual tourist rush around Tavistock. St John The Baptist is a solid Devon parish church - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think, which these days feels like a luxury.

Inside, there's genuine medieval work alongside later additions. The architecture tells the story of centuries of village life in one of the moorland valleys. Stone walls, carved details, the sort of spaces where locals have marked births, deaths and everything between. It's not flashy or trying to impress. It's a working church first, tourist spot second.

This works best if you're already walking the area around the Dart Valley or passing through en route to Tavistock. Don't make a special trip from elsewhere, but if you're staying at Langstone Manor Holiday Park just up the road, it's absolutely worth a wander. Twenty minutes would cover it properly - less if you're just popping in during a walk.

The village itself is quiet. Some decent spots for a drink nearby, and you're within easy reach of better-known attractions without the crowds. Winter's actually when it feels most authentic - the summer tourists tend to stick to the bigger towns.

Go if you like the feel of actual working churches rather than polished heritage attractions. Skip it if you need dramatic architecture or visitor facilities. The car park situation is typical Devon - workable but tight.
