St Fionnlagh's Chapel

The ruins of St Fionnlagh's Chapel sit quietly on the Kintyre Peninsula, a few miles from Tarbert, and honestly it's the sort of place you'll stumble upon rather than specifically plan for. What you get is a modest medieval stone structure - roofless now, weathered grey - that speaks more through its solitude than any grand architecture. The chapel dates back centuries and was dedicated to an Irish saint; locals have tended it over generations, which is evident in how it's been kept from total collapse.

Walkers will appreciate this one. It's not a major detour if you're exploring Argyll's coastal paths, and the surrounding landscape - moorland rolling toward the water - makes for decent photography. You won't spend more than twenty minutes here unless you're really into ecclesiastical stonework, but that's part of its appeal. No crowds, no visitor centre, just you and some genuinely old walls.

It's ideal if you're staying at Muasdale Holiday Park or Killegruer Caravan Site and fancy a quiet morning ramble rather than a full day out. The chapel itself is free to visit - there's no gate or admission charge - though checking the ground conditions after rain is sensible.
