St Andrews Museum

The museum sits right in the heart of St Andrews, a short walk from the cathedral ruins and the famous golf links. Inside, you'll find the town's story laid out across two floors - medieval artefacts, Victorian photographs, golf memorabilia, and enough local detail to make sense of why this place mattered beyond just putting a ball in a hole.

It's modest in scale, which means you won't spend half a day here, but that's rather the point. Historians and anyone curious about Scottish coastal life will find genuine meat on the bones - proper records, not just tourist gloss. Families with older kids will get something from it; younger ones might fidget after twenty minutes.

The opening hours are seasonal (April to September, mornings and early afternoons), so check before you visit - nothing worse than finding the door locked. Whether there's an admission fee isn't clear from what I can find, so ring ahead to be certain.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Craigtoun Meadows is closest at under two miles - the museum works as a solid rainy-day activity before heading back to the campsite. Pair it with a proper wander round the ruins and a round of golf if you're that way inclined. It won't blow your mind, but it fills a gap well enough in a St Andrews itinerary.
