St Andrews, Kettleburgh

The church sits quietly at the heart of Kettleburgh, a village that most people barrel past on the way to somewhere else. St Andrews is a proper piece of Suffolk medieval work - flint and stone, the sort of building that's been watching over the same fields for seven hundred years. Inside, it's wonderfully simple. High wooden beams, the kind of light that makes you squint after coming in from outside, and enough peace and quiet to actually hear yourself think.

It's the sort of place walkers and local history types will genuinely enjoy lingering in. Not grand enough to demand hours, but interesting enough that you won't regret the detour. The churchyard itself is pleasant for a poke around if you're the type who reads old gravestones.

Woodbridge is just down the road, so if you're using Savage Glamping as a base - and at 5.0 stars it's clearly doing something right - you can easily combine this with a broader Suffolk church-crawl. The region's thick with them. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour unless you're genuinely into medieval architecture, in which case you might stretch to forty-five. No entry fees as far as I can tell, which is how parish churches should be. Go on a dry day if possible; there's nothing worse than trying to read a memorial tablet while rain's dripping down your neck.
