St Andrew's Church, Shotley

The church sits quietly in Shotley village, a few miles south of Stocksfield, and it's one of those places you'll drive past without knowing what you're missing. St Andrew's has been standing here for centuries, and the building itself tells that story in stone - medieval foundations, later additions, the sort of layered history that rewards a proper look around.

Inside, you'll find the sort of peaceful atmosphere that actual parish churches manage better than anywhere else. The interior has that particular smell - old wood, stone, time itself. Realistically, allow half an hour here maximum, but it's the sort of stop that won't feel wasted if you're exploring the Derwent Valley parks.
