Spindle Park

A sprawl of wetland and woodland just outside Worcester, Spindle Park is the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick lap. The reserve sits on what was once industrial land, and nature's done a decent job reclaiming it - you've got reed beds, open water, and patches of scrubby woodland that feel properly wild for somewhere this close to the city.

Walking the paths here, you'll spot water birds if you're patient. Birdwatchers absolutely clean up, especially in spring and autumn when migration kicks in. The paths are accessible enough for families, though they can get boggy after rain - proper waterproofs worth bringing. Allow a couple of hours to do it justice; rush it and you'll miss the point.

It's free to visit, which is brilliant, and there's no faffing about with opening hours - you can rock up pretty much any time during daylight. Winter's actually crackling good here when the light's low and the water reflects everything; summer gets busy with dog walkers and joggers.

If you're based at Hidden England Escapes or Orleton Court Farm Campsite - both just down the road - this is a proper addition to your itinerary. Not a major attraction that'll eat a day, but exactly what you need for a morning walk that clears your head. The kind of place that feels like nobody's discovered it yet, even though they obviously have.
