Skelding Hill

Standing at 329 feet, this is officially Norfolk's highest point - though don't expect Alpine vistas. The walk up through Cromer Ridge takes about twenty minutes from the nearest car park, winding through lovely woodland that feels properly ancient. At the summit, a modest triangulation pillar marks your achievement, but thick tree cover means the views are limited to glimpses through the canopy.

Walkers will appreciate the network of footpaths that radiate from here, connecting to the Norfolk Coast Path and offering routes down to Sheringham and back towards Cromer. It's more about the journey than the destination - the beech and oak woods are genuinely beautiful, especially in autumn when the colours are spectacular.

Families with older children might enjoy the novelty of standing on Norfolk's roof, but younger ones will likely find it underwhelming after the climb. The lack of panoramic views makes this one for dedicated peak-baggers and woodland wanderers rather than casual sightseers.
