Sithean nan Ealachan

Sithean nan Ealachan sits at 1,097 metres above sea level in the heart of raw Highland terrain, near Sutherland. It's a serious hill walk, not a casual stroll, and the path demands respect - boggy in places, steep in others, with loose rock that'll shift beneath your boots if you're not careful.

The summit rewards effort with sweeping views across to Ben Loyal and out towards the north coast. It's the kind of place that reminds you why people come to the Highlands rather than pretty postcards of it.

This is for walkers who know what they're doing. Not beginners, not families with young children, not anyone hoping for a quick hill. Allow four to five hours for the round trip from wherever you park. The terrain is exposed, so weather matters enormously. Pick a decent day or don't bother.

Pair this with easier routes if you want variety across your week. Sithean nan Ealachan itself is best saved for when conditions are settled and your legs are fresh.
