Sgòrr Racaineach

Getting to the summit of Sgòrr Racaineach means a proper hill walk from near Crieff, and it's one of those peaks that rewards the effort without demanding mountaineering skills. The climb takes you through mixed woodland before opening onto moorland, and on a clear day you get sweeping views across Perthshire and towards the Trossachs. The summit itself is modest - no dramatic cairn or shelter, just a knoll with good sightlines - but that's rather the point. It's honest terrain.

Walkers will find this most satisfying. The round trip is manageable for anyone with basic fitness, though the ground can be boggy in places and the path isn't always obvious. Allow three to four hours. You'll likely have the hill mostly to yourself, which is refreshing when you're used to the honeypot peaks. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of scramble will get on fine; younger ones might find it a slog.

There's free access from the usual walking routes, though facilities in the immediate area are limited. You're well-placed if you're staying at Twenty Shilling Wood or Comrie Holiday Park, both within easy driving distance. This pairs nicely with exploring the Crieff area itself or pushing further into the Trossachs.
