Sgreadan Hill

The walk up Sgreadan Hill rewards you with one of those views that makes the effort genuinely worthwhile. It's a proper peak near Campbeltown - nothing massive, but the climb is steep enough to feel like an achievement, and the Kintyre peninsula rolls out beneath you once you're up there.

From the summit you get sight lines across to Islay and Jura on a clear day, and the moorland around you has that wild, windswept quality that makes you feel properly away from things. The walk itself takes a couple of hours there and back depending on your pace and which route you take up - locals have worn several paths into the hillside over the years.

It's ideal for walkers who like a genuine hill without needing technical gear or hours of scrambling. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the ascent tedious. The ground can be boggy in places, so proper boots matter more than the gradient suggests.

Campbeltown is your nearest town for supplies and coffee beforehand - grab something there because there's nothing on the hill itself. If you're staying at Killegruer Caravan Site, it's a straightforward drive over. Most people allow a half-day for the whole outing, including the walk, so it fits well alongside other Kintyre activities rather than being a full-day commitment.
