Sedgecombe Platation

Sedgecombe Plantation is a proper working woodland just outside Chipping Campden, and it's the sort of place that rewards a quiet wander rather than demanding your full day. You're walking through managed forest - mature trees, cleared paths, the occasional timber operation reminder - rather than a manicured attraction with signage and benches. It's free to access, which is refreshing, and you can easily spend an hour or two here without feeling rushed.

Walkers will find it genuinely pleasant. The woodland offers decent cover on drizzly days, and the paths are well-trodden enough not to be treacherous. Families with younger kids might find it a touch underwhelming after the first twenty minutes - there's not much to do beyond walking and spotting the odd bird - but older children who actually enjoy being in nature will be fine here. It's the sort of place you visit because you're staying nearby, not because you've driven miles specifically for it.

The real draw is its location. If you're based at Campden Yurts or one of the other parks scattered around Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh, Sedgecombe slots in nicely as a morning or afternoon filler. It breaks up a holiday without requiring tickets or planning. Go early if you can - you'll likely have it largely to yourself. Bring waterproofs as standard; it's woodland in the Cotswolds, so damp is almost guaranteed.
