Screech Owl Sanctuary

Owls stare at you with those enormous, unblinking eyes from every corner of this compact sanctuary near Indian Queens. The Screech Owl Sanctuary does exactly what it says on the tin - provides a home for rescued birds of prey, though you'll find far more than just screech owls here.

Families with younger children absolutely love this place. The birds are housed in spacious aviaries where you can get properly close - close enough to see every feather detail and hear the different calls. Barn owls, tawny owls, and various hawks all have their own personalities, and the staff know each bird's story.

What makes this sanctuary special is the hands-on approach. During feeding times and flying demonstrations, you're not watching from a distance - you're right there as a magnificent eagle owl swoops overhead or a kestrel shows off its hunting skills.

Allow about two hours for a thorough visit, though owl-mad kids could easily stretch it longer. The sanctuary works well as a rainy day option if you're staying at White Acres Holiday Park or any of the other parks around Newquay - it's an easy drive from most Cornwall coastal spots and gives you something completely different from beach days.
