Scout Point

The walk up to Scout Point rewards you with one of the best coastal views across Torbay, and it's genuinely worth the climb from Brixham. You're standing on a proper headland here - the kind of spot where you can see right across the bay on a clear day, with Torquay sprawling along the opposite shore and the open water stretching out in front of you. It takes about twenty minutes from the town centre if you're reasonably fit, though the final stretch gets a bit steep.

Historically, this was a Scout training ground - hence the name - and there's still something of that outdoor adventure spirit about the place. The views alone make it worth the walk, but it's not a major attraction in the theme-park sense. You'll spend half an hour here maximum, taking photos and catching your breath. Families with teenagers will get more from it than families with young kids, unless you're planning a proper ramble. The path is well-trodden but can be muddy after rain, so decent footwear matters.

If you're staying at South Bay Holiday Park or Waterside Holiday Park, it's practically on your doorstep - a proper quick outing that doesn't require much planning. Combine it with a wander around Brixham harbour itself for a half-day. There's no café or facilities up there, so bring your own water. The best light hits the bay in late afternoon, so plan your visit accordingly if you're chasing good photos.
