About Scotton Park
What you actually do here is straightforward - walk. There are decent trails through the trees following the water, and the whole thing feels less manicured than a country estate but more managed than wild fell. Spring brings bluebells thick enough to make the effort worth it. Summer's pleasant but can get muggy under the canopy. Autumn's probably best, if you can time it.
It works well for families who can manage a couple of miles on foot without complaint, and for the kind of walker who likes woodland over open moorland. You won't need more than ninety minutes here unless you're after a proper half-day ramble, in which case you can loop it into other walks nearby. The reserve doesn't have the drama of somewhere like Hardcastle Crags, but that's partly the point - it's intimate rather than spectacular.
Free access as far as I can tell, though do check before you go. If you're staying at Eastfield Glamping Farm just up the road, or the Park Leisure setup on the Wensleydale, this is a genuine bonus for getting outside without leaving the immediate area. Not a destination in itself, but a solid addition to a valley break.
