About Scaleber Force Waterfall

The walk to Scaleber Force is short enough that you won't regret it, but long enough that you feel like you've actually done something. The waterfall itself drops about 40 feet into a rocky pool - nothing that'll make you gasp, but it's the sort of thing that justifies a morning ramble from Skipton.

You'll find it up a narrow valley north of Malham, following a proper stream the whole way. The path is mostly well-trodden and straightforward, taking maybe 20 minutes on the approach. Bring decent boots though; it gets muddy, and there's one section where you're essentially scrambling alongside the beck.

Walkers will appreciate this more than families with small children - it's the kind of walk where the destination matters less than the fact you're outside moving about in the Dales. History types won't find much here beyond the landscape itself, but that's rather the point. If you're after a quick leg-stretcher before heading back to camp at Peaks and Pods or The Dalesbridge, this does the job. The waterfall is most impressive after rain, so check the weather beforehand - visiting on a dry spell can feel a bit underwhelming.

It's free, obviously. Allow an hour round trip if you're taking it slowly, less if you're keen. Combine it with a visit to Malham village proper, or use it as a warm-up for longer walks in the area. The falls themselves? They're decent enough to photograph, but the walk is the real draw.
