Scaleber Force

The waterfall itself isn't dramatic - a modest cascade that tumbles over limestone rocks into a pool below. But that's rather the point. Scaleber Force, a short walk from Skipton, rewards you for effort without demanding you're an experienced fell walker. The approach takes you through moorland and past dry stone walls, the landscape rolling and open. Allow an hour round trip from the car park, maybe two if you're with kids who want to paddle in the plunge pool on a hot day. It's free, obviously, and you won't find crowds here even on summer weekends. The walk itself is the real draw - proper Yorkshire moorland, the kind that clears your head. Water runs all year, though spring and after heavy rain it's at its best. History types won't find much to sink their teeth into, but walkers and families after an easy outing will get on well with it. The terrain is boggy in places and can be muddy, so proper footwear matters. If you're based at Malham Glamping Pods or The Dalesbridge Campsite nearby, this makes a decent morning jaunt before heading elsewhere. It's not a destination in itself - you won't spend more than an hour at the falls - but as part of a wider Dales loop, it justifies the detour. Worth doing once. Don't expect Instagram gold, just a quiet corner of Yorkshire that actually belongs to locals, and you'll respect it all the more for that.
