Sandhaven Church

A small whitewashed kirk sitting alone on the Aberdeenshire coast, Sandhaven Church is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. Built in 1804, it's a proper working church with a straightforward charm - no fussy Victorian additions, just solid local stone and a churchyard where generations of fishermen and farming folk are buried.

The real draw is the setting. Standing here, you're looking out towards the North Sea with the wind usually doing its best to knock you sideways, and Fraserburgh's fishing heritage feels suddenly real rather than historical. It's quiet. Genuinely quiet in a way that's become rare. The interior is modest - whitewashed walls, simple wooden pews, a lectern that's seen a lot of use - but that's rather the point. This isn't a museum piece; locals still worship here.

You'll want twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're the sort to sit and absorb things. History buffs will appreciate the gravestones - they tell proper stories of the sea and the land. Families with younger kids? They'll get restless quickly unless they're the contemplative type. Walkers, though, should absolutely include it in a coastal ramble from Fraserburgh.

If you're based at Down On The Farm or the glamping spots nearby, this is a decent morning detour before heading to the beaches proper. It costs nothing and asks nothing of you except a bit of respect for the place. Worth the drive from either holiday park.
