Rosehearty Harbour

The working harbour at Rosehearty is the real thing - fishing boats actually tie up here, nets get mended on the quay, and you'll see the daily business of a Scottish fishing village rather than a sanitised tourist version. It's a small, unpretentious spot just outside Fraserburgh where the smell of salt and diesel fuel tells you this place exists for the boats, not for visitors.

What you get is a proper working waterfront. Park up and walk along the harbour wall, watch the fishermen, maybe grab a tea from a local spot if one's open. The light is often lovely here, especially in the golden hour before sunset - photographer types and painters have figured this out already. On a calm day it's genuinely peaceful. On a rough day, it's dramatic and moody. Allow 45 minutes to an hour unless you're the sort who'll stand for ages watching the water.

The harbour itself costs nothing and opens whenever (it's a working port, not a visitor attraction with set hours), so you fit it round everything else.

Honestly? It won't blow your mind. But it's genuine, it's Scottish, and it breaks up a holiday nicely. Kids who like boats will get something from it; those after a manicured seaside experience should head elsewhere.
