Rushock Hill

The walk up Rushock Hill rewards you with proper views across the Powys borderlands - the sort of landscape that reminds you why Mid Wales gets under your skin. It's not a dramatic peak by any stretch, but the climb from Presteigne is gentle enough that you're not gasping by the top, and the panorama justifies the effort.

This is walker territory, really. Families with young kids might find the ascent a bit much, and you won't find facilities or attractions at the summit itself - just grass, sky, and the satisfaction of being somewhere quiet. Allow a couple of hours return from town, depending on your pace and how long you linger. The hill works brilliantly as a morning outing if you're based at one of the local holiday parks. Rockbridge Park sits just 3.8 miles away and makes an excellent base, as do Hush Hush Glamping or Presteigne Holiday Park.

Go on a clear day - anything misty and you've lost half the point. Spring and autumn are best, when the light's proper golden and the heather's worth the trek. Summer gets busy with local walkers, winter can be boggy underfoot. It's free, obviously, and the path from Presteigne is well-trodden enough that you won't get lost.

If you're combining a park holiday with actual walking rather than just lounging about, this fits perfectly into a morning itinerary before heading back for lunch. Not Instagram-worthy, but genuinely worth the walk.
