Titley Pool Nature Reserve

The walk to Titley Pool takes you through proper countryside, the kind where you actually see what Herefordshire looks like beyond the main roads. It's a shallow reservoir surrounded by woodland and scrub - nothing dramatic, but genuinely good for spotting waterfowl and the odd heron if you're lucky. The reserve sits just north of Presteigne, making it an easy detour if you're based at one of the local holiday parks like Pearl Lake or Arrow Bank.

You can walk the perimeter in under an hour, which is the main draw here. The paths are straightforward and popular with local dog walkers, so don't expect solitude on weekends. It's the kind of place where birdwatchers will spend two hours with binoculars glued to their faces while families with young kids might find it a bit quiet after thirty minutes. Winter and spring are best for migration, when you'll see proper variety.

Admission appears to be free - there's no obvious visitor centre or car park infrastructure - so treat it as a bonus walk rather than a destination in itself. Combine it with a wider loop through the surrounding countryside or use it as a break between Presteigne's market town attractions and the larger parks nearby. Access isn't especially signposted, so come with a decent map or use Google Maps to find the actual entrance. Worth an hour of your time if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your holiday schedule for it.
