Round Wood

Round Wood is a proper slice of managed woodland just outside Market Drayton, the sort of place locals know well but visitors often miss. You're walking through beech and mixed broadleaf forest here, with decent trails that wind through the canopy and open up to small clearings. It's not dramatic - no waterfalls or clifftop views - but it's the kind of wood where you actually notice the light filtering through leaves and hear birdsong properly.

Families with younger kids will get a solid hour out of it; older walkers might push for two if they're pottering. The paths are manageable underfoot in most seasons, though it'll be muddy after heavy rain. There's something quite meditative about it, honestly. You're not fighting crowds, and the trees are genuinely thick enough that you forget the farmland is right there beyond the treeline.

It slots in nicely as a morning or late-afternoon wander if you're based at Westcott Woods Glamping nearby - only 2 miles away, so no epic drive. The glamping site itself is well-rated, so you could easily combine a night there with woodland rambling. Round Wood isn't somewhere you'd plan a day trip around, but if you're in north Shropshire and want to stretch your legs without the postcard-perfect pressure, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
