Puleston Hill

The walk up Puleston Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and it's genuinely worth your legs doing the work. You get proper views across Staffordshire once you've reached the summit - on a clear day you can see for miles across the rolling countryside, which makes the mild huff and puff feel justified.

It's not a mountain. Let's be honest. But it's a cracking spot for families with older kids who don't mind a bit of a climb, and walkers will appreciate how it slots into a broader route around Market Drayton. The hill itself is wooded lower down, which keeps things interesting, and the summit opens out to give you that sudden sense of height.

You won't need more than an hour here unless you're the type to sit and sketch or take photographs from every angle. The ground can get boggy after rain, so proper boots are sensible rather than optional.

Westcott Woods rates particularly highly with visitors, and it's close enough that you could easily combine the walk with exploring what else is nearby around Market Drayton.
