Round Hill Wood

The walk up Round Hill Wood takes you through proper woodland - mixed broadleaf and conifers that shift colour with the seasons. It's a straightforward climb through Staffordshire countryside just outside Market Drayton, and you're rewarded with decent views across the surrounding farmland once you reach the top. Nothing dramatic, but on a clear day it's worth the effort.

This is walker territory. Families with younger children might find the climb a bit much if they're not used to steady inclines, though it's nothing treacherous. The woodland itself is quiet and undisturbed, which means you won't have crowds queuing for photos. You could do the whole thing in an hour or so, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the summit.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites - Westcott Woods or Shropshire Glamping are both rated highly and within spitting distance - this makes an excellent morning walk before heading into Market Drayton for lunch. It's the sort of place that slots neatly into a broader park holiday without demanding a huge chunk of your day. Good boots help; the paths can be muddy in wet weather. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so bring what you need. No admission fee as far as I can gather - just turn up and walk.
