Robin Hill

The walk up Robin Hill rewards you with proper views across the Yorkshire Dales, especially if you time it right and catch the light hitting Skipton and the valleys beyond. It's not a massive peak - nothing that'll take your legs off - but the climb is steady enough to feel like you've earned the summit.

The real appeal here is how accessible it is from Skipton. You're looking at a straightforward fell walk rather than a scramble, so families with older kids can manage it without drama. The terrain underfoot varies between grass and rougher ground, nothing technical. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip if you're not racing.

Walkers heading out from the Dales holiday parks - Coxons Farm or Malham Glamping aren't far - will find this a cracking half-day option. It slots in nicely alongside bigger expeditions to Pen-y-ghent or Ingleborough, or as a solo outing if the weather's dodgy for the serious peaks. Go early in the day if you want it quiet. Late afternoon light is lovely too, if you don't mind coming down in the gloam.

Bring decent boots - the ground can be boggy in patches after rain - and a map. Mobile signal's patchy once you're up there. Free to access, obviously, being open moorland. The views aren't Instagram-famous, which means you'll likely have the place mostly to yourself.
