River Eden

The River Eden winds through Cumbria like a proper ribbon of northern beauty, and it's one of those waterways that rewards a slow wander rather than a rushed tick-off. Crossfells Campsite sits just 5.6 miles away, which is a cracking base if you want to make the Eden your holiday focus rather than a side trip. The landscape around here isn't showy, but it's genuine Cumbrian countryside - and that's worth more than a dozen picture-postcard spots. Visit in late spring or early autumn when the path isn't waterlogged and the crowds are thinner.
