Riddapit Longhouse

A Bronze Age longhouse that's somehow survived four thousand years on the edge of Dartmoor - that's what Riddapit is. You won't find much left standing, mind you. What you're actually looking at are the earthwork foundations and stone wall remnants that archaeologists have identified as a domestic settlement from around 2000 BC. It's the kind of place that rewards a bit of effort to find and understand, but won't hold your attention for more than thirty minutes, even if you're genuinely interested in prehistory.

The location itself is the main draw - it sits on moorland with proper views across Dartmoor, and the walk to reach it is pleasant enough if you're already exploring the area. Tavistock, the nearest town, is about three miles away and makes a decent base for a visit. The real appeal here is for anyone with a solid interest in Bronze Age settlement patterns or Dartmoor archaeology. Kids might find the authenticity more engaging than a reconstructed village, but they'll need context and patience. Don't expect dramatic ruins or interpretation boards - bring a good guide or do your homework first.
