Rhyddings Park

Rhyddings Park sits just outside Clitheroe, a proper nature reserve where the Ribble Valley actually feels wild. You get woodland paths that meander through ancient trees, open meadows full of wildflowers depending on the season, and if you're lucky, glimpses of nesting birds in the thick undergrowth.

It's the kind of place where walkers genuinely come to think. The reserve works particularly well for anyone keen on spotting wildlife or photography. Bring binoculars and patience rather than expecting easy viewpoints.

Allow two to three hours for a proper wander. The terrain is manageable but not flat, so decent boots help on muddier sections. There's genuine appeal for families with older children who can handle an unstructured walk - let them explore a bit, hunt for birds, spot wildflowers. Younger kids might find it a touch dull after an hour or so without specific activities to chase.

The nearest caravan base is Northwood Caravan & Holiday Park about six miles away, making Rhyddings a natural add-on for a few days exploring the Ribble Valley's outdoor offerings. It's free access and worth the detour if you're already in Clitheroe for a week. Just go early or midweek to avoid the worst of the foot traffic.
