Families with younger children might find it a bit thin on activity, though older kids who enjoy exploration and natural history will probably engage with it.

The nearest decent base is Caernarfon, though the campsite circuit around here is excellent. Beddgelert Campsite sits closest at under five miles and has strong reviews. Llechwedd Glamping and Llyn Gwynant are both within striking distance if you want something a touch more comfortable. The site itself appears to be free and open access - no visitor centre, no facilities, just the ruins and the hillside. Go early in the day if you want solitude, and bring a map. This isn't a destination that holds your hand.
