Rhaeadr Fawr

The waterfall thunders down a rocky ravine near Llanfairfechan, and it's genuinely worth seeking out if you're camping or glamping in the area. Rhaeadr Fawr - which means Big Waterfall in Welsh - is the sort of place that rewards a proper walk rather than a five-minute car park shuffle. The approach takes you through woodland, following a stream that builds in volume and intensity as you climb, until suddenly the falls appear: a substantial drop that's most impressive after rain when the water's really got some force behind it.

It's excellent for walkers who want something with actual purpose - not just a stroll but a genuine destination. The path isn't brutally difficult, though it's steep in sections and can be boggy underfoot depending on weather. You're looking at an hour or so to get there and back, maybe longer if you linger and take photos. Families with reasonably confident walkers will manage it fine. Young kids or those after an easy meander might find the trudge more effort than reward.

The location works brilliantly if you're based at Three Streams Glamping, Ogwen Bank, or any of the caravan parks dotted around Llanfairfechan. It's close enough for a morning or afternoon outing without eating a whole day. The woodland setting means it's pleasant even in overcast weather - actually, the grey skies make the water look more dramatic. Go early if you can; it's not exactly undiscovered, and other walkers do find it.
