Repton Park - Park

The moment you step into Repton Park, you're in proper countryside - woodland paths that wind through mature trees, open grassland, and the kind of quiet that makes you realise how rare that actually is. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured park, which means the appeal is straightforward: walking, spotting wildlife if you're lucky, and just breathing in air that doesn't taste of anything in particular.

You'll see woodland birds, depending on season, and the paths are manageable without needing proper hiking boots. The reserve covers enough ground that you won't feel cramped, though it's not so vast that you'll need half a day. Families with kids aged six upwards will get something from it - there's space to run about and explore - but it's not a playground destination. Walkers and birdwatchers are the obvious fit here.

The whole thing is best visited early morning or late afternoon if you're serious about spotting anything. Summer weekends bring out day-trippers from nearby towns, which rather defeats the purpose of a nature reserve, so plan accordingly.

If you're staying at Dunn Street Farm Campsite or Broadhembury Caravan Park - both within a few miles - Repton is a sensible half-day outing to break up a quieter holiday. It pairs well with other local walks in the Kent countryside rather than being a destination in itself. Free to access and requiring nothing but decent footwear.
