Rector's Coppice

A proper woodland walk among mature trees and open glades, Rector's Coppice is the sort of place you stumble upon and realise you've found something real. It's ancient woodland on the edge of Worcester, managed for both wildlife and walking, with paths that wind through coppiced hazel and oak without feeling manicured or overdone.

You get natural shade, decent trails for an afternoon ramble, and genuinely quiet spots where you might actually hear birds. It's not dramatic or showy. There's no visitor centre, no facilities to speak of, no crowds fighting for space on Instagram. That's rather the point. A family with older kids or reasonably fit younger ones will get a solid two hours here, maybe three if you're the type to sit on a log and just be still. Pushchair users needn't bother - the paths aren't designed for wheels.

Historically it's been worked as a coppice for centuries, which is why it looks the way it does - dense but open enough to move through. Walkers will appreciate it more than those after a stroll and a cafe stop. If you're staying at Hidden England Escapes or Orleton Court Farm Campsite just down the road, this makes an easy half-day break from the caravan or lodge without needing to plan much beyond decent boots.

Free to roam, open dawn to dusk. Best in spring when the woodland floor gets busy with growth, or autumn when it's genuinely pretty.
