Ravens Tor

Sharp limestone cliffs rise dramatically from the Manifold Valley floor, offering one of Derbyshire's most rewarding short climbs. Ravens Tor provides proper Peak District drama without the crowds that plague more famous summits like Kinder Scout or Bleaklow. The walk up takes about 20 minutes from the nearest parking spot, with a steep but well-defined path winding through gritstone outcrops.

From the top, you get sweeping views across the White Peak countryside towards Ashbourne and beyond. It's particularly lovely in late afternoon when the light catches the patchwork of dry stone walls below. Keen walkers will appreciate how Ravens Tor connects with longer routes through the Manifold Valley, while families with older children will find the scramble up engaging enough to hold interest.

The tor itself is a proper climb - not suitable for pushchairs or anyone wobbly on their feet. Allow an hour for the round trip, though you'll want longer to properly take in the views. Weather changes quickly up here, so pack layers even on seemingly mild days.
