Poor Man's Wood

A proper woodland walk on the edge of Llandovery, Poor Man's Wood is exactly what its name suggests - no fancy visitor centre, no gift shop, just trees and paths. The forest sits close enough to the town that you can walk there in twenty minutes, which makes it brilliant for a morning sortie before heading into the market town for lunch.

It's a modest patch of woodland with pleasant trails threading through mixed trees. Nothing dramatic, but that's rather the point. Families with younger kids will find it manageable enough for an hour's ramble, whilst walkers after something more substantial can link it into longer routes across the surrounding countryside. The paths are fairly well-trodden, though it pays to wear decent boots after rain.

You won't find much in the way of facilities - this is a working forest rather than a manicured attraction - but that's part of its charm. There's no entrance fee, no car park charge, no roped-off sections. Just walk in from the Llandovery side and go. Allow an hour minimum, longer if you're inclined to wander.

If you're staying at Erwlon Caravan & Camping Park or Riverside Pods, both within a mile, Poor Man's Wood makes an easy morning activity before settling in for the afternoon. It won't blow your mind, but it's a genuine local spot that punches well above its weight for a quick woodland dose. Best visited on a clear day when the light filters through nicely.
