Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre

Bangor's Pontio Centre is where the university's arts programme and local culture collide in a surprisingly slick modern building. It's a working venue rather than a museum - theatre, live music, dance, film screenings, exhibitions. The sort of place that changes what's on every few weeks, so you might catch anything from a Welsh language production to contemporary art installations or touring orchestras.

Inside it's all glass and polished concrete, all very 21st century, which feels a bit odd in coastal North Wales but works. The ground floor café is decent for a proper coffee between browsing whatever exhibition is running. It's really for people who want live culture rather than a casual family afternoon out. Teenagers interested in theatre or music will get more from it than younger kids. From the caravan parks around Anglesey - Black Horse is nearest at 3.8 miles - it's a proper quick drive or bus ride into Bangor town centre. Worth fitting in during a rainy afternoon, or if you're after an evening out. Not a destination in itself, but a useful cultural fix when the North Wales weather turns.
