Point and Run

A short walk from Burnham-on-Sea brings you to Point and Run, a modest coastal landmark that's more about the journey than the destination itself. It's essentially a headland point where the landscape shifts - nothing dramatic, but the kind of spot that rewards a proper wander along the Somerset coast. The actual 'run' refers to a stretch of shingle and sand that extends from here, popular with locals who know the tides and the mood of the place.

It's worth visiting if you're already staying at one of the nearby parks - Wall Eden Farm, Burnham Holiday Village, or Haven Burnham-on-Sea are all within easy reach. Don't expect a visitor centre or marked facilities. What you get is a bit of coastal air, a chance to stretch your legs, and views across the Bristol Channel if the weather plays ball. Kids might find it underwhelming if they're after activities, though the beach itself keeps most occupied for a decent stretch. Walkers and photographers will get more from it, particularly at low tide when the shingle banks shift and change the character of the place.

Allow an hour if you're making a proper day of it, half that if you're just passing through. The best time is when the tide is out - you get more foreshore to explore and the whole landscape opens up differently. Free to visit, naturally.
