Pleasant Hill

The walk up Pleasant Hill rewards you with a proper panorama across Warwickshire's rolling farmland - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can pick out the spine of the Cotswolds stretching away to the southwest. It's the sort of place that locals know and visitors often miss, sitting just outside Banbury where the countryside starts to rise gently toward higher ground.

The hill itself isn't steep enough to be a slog, and the views are genuinely worth the twenty minutes or so it takes to get up there. You're looking at open fields, a real sense of space, and the kind of light that changes everything depending on the time of day. It's not a dramatic peak - no dramatic summit markers or cafe at the top - but that's rather the point. This feels like actual countryside, not a tourist attraction with a car park.

Walkers will find it worthwhile, especially if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks around Banbury like Mount Farm Park or Fir Tree Campsite. Families with younger kids might find the return journey a bit repetitive unless you loop it into a longer country walk. Photographers should come late afternoon when the light gets golden across the fields.

Go in spring or early summer when the grass is green and the fields are properly alive. Allow an hour return including time to sit at the top and actually look around. Free to visit, obviously - just follow the footpaths and respect the farmland.
