Burton Dassett Hills Country Park

The views from Burton Dassett Hills are proper stunning - on a clear day you can see right across the Warwickshire countryside, which makes the short climb well worth the effort. This country park sits just south of Banbury and gives you a genuine sense of height despite being nowhere near mountainous terrain. The hills themselves are dotted with walking trails of varying difficulty, so you can potter about for twenty minutes or spend a couple of hours rambling depending on your mood.

It's free to visit and there's decent parking, which beats paying for somewhere touristy. The landscape has real character - rolling grassland, patches of woodland, and those views that keep surprising you as you crest each small rise. Walkers will have the most fun here, especially families with older kids who won't complain endlessly about the inclines. Younger children might tire after an hour or so unless they're genuinely keen on countryside exploration.

Going in spring or early autumn is ideal - summer can get busy and muddy patches are less forgiving in wet weather. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to do more than just the main viewpoint walk. The nearest proper base is Banbury itself, though if you're camping locally, Mount Farm Park and Fir Tree Campsite are both within a few miles and would make convenient launching points. It slots nicely into a wider walking holiday around Warwickshire - the hills give you that proper outdoor feeling without requiring serious hiking boots or mountaineering experience.
