Plainmoor is where the Gulls play their league matches, and if you're a football fan staying at any of the nearby parks - Parkdean Resorts is practically on your doorstep at under two miles - catching a match here is a genuine option rather than a pointless detour.

The ground has that proper lived-in feel of a lower-league club. You get actual supporters, not corporate hospitality drone-outs, and the energy on matchdays is infectious. The views across the Devon coastline from certain parts of the stadium are rather lovely, a reminder that Torquay is fundamentally a seaside town that happens to have a football club. The facilities are straightforward - decent enough pie, standard stadium toilets, nothing fancy.

It's worth checking the fixture list before booking your holiday. Catching an afternoon kick-off here works brilliantly if you're timing it right, particularly if you're based at Parkdean or one of the glamping spots like Brownscombe or The Smithy just up the coast. If you're not fussed about football, though, you won't find much reason to wander over. Families with kids who aren't interested in the sport would be better off heading to Torquay's seafront attractions instead. But for football-curious types staying in the area, it's a genuine slice of local Devon culture that beats watching it on telly from your caravan.
